Kirkby Stephen is nestled in the heart of one of Britain's most scenic regions and the Northern Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales National Park.  The town is a perfect base from which to explore the wonders of the English countryside and enjoy the great outdoors.  Kirkby Stephen will be a hive of activities for you all to enjoy.  Organised walks, runs, cycles, art, craft, music and more.

What's on:

Breakfast: 9am to 11.30am, The Masonic Hall.  Keep your energy levels up with breakfast buns, teas and coffees.  Catering by Nateby and Wharton WI.

Motoring Memories:  from 9am.  Take a trip down memory lane and admire a display of vintage cars and motorbikes on and around the Market Square, thanks to the Morris Minor Owner's Club, Martin Bell of MHB Motorcycles and Krusty's Bike Barn.

Artisan & Craft Market: 11am to 4pm.  Enjoy a local arts and crafts market and exhibition in Kirkby Stephen Parish Church, the `Cathedral of the Dales'.  Craft activities available for children.

Celebrate our Great Outdoors:  From 11am.  Find out more about the local and national organisations working across the dales, with stalls on the Church Green.  Owl display from the Owl Sanctuary Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, Barrow in Furness.

Westmorland Clog Dancers - 2.30pm The Cloisters

Afternoon Tea - 1.30pm to 4.30pm, The Masonic Hall.  Relax and recover with sumptuous afternoon tea.  Catering by Nateby and Wharton WI.

Cumbria Classic Coach Tours - 1.30pm (booking essential) Join us on a coach ride through the Yorkshire Dales National Park, on one of Cumbria Classic Coaches beautiful Vintage Vehicles.  Followed by afternoon tea at the Masonic Hall.  Cost: £10 (coach trip only: £5), under 12s free on the coach, £3 for afternoon tea. 

Running - Westmorland Dales Fun Run 11am - 8 miles, 11am 4.5 miles.  A choice of two routes will take you on a scenic journey along rural tracks and through undulating countryside, offering an inside view of the wonderful Westmorland Dales and links to the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Junior Fun Run - 2.30pm.  Supported by the Howgill Harriers. Registration from 10am on the Church Green.

Walk 1 - Smardale Gill Nature Reserve 2pm to 4pm
Exploring geology and landscape with Cumbria Wildlife Trust members - easy.
An easy walk along the disused railway line of Smardale Gill Nature Reserve, now in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.  Looking for evidence of underlying rocks and geological processes which have shaped the landscape we see today.  Led by Peter and Sylvia Woodhead of Cumbria GeoConservation.  No geological knowledge required.  Refreshments should be available to purchase afterwards at Lune Spring Nurseries.  Meet Newbiggin-on-Lune where the roads to Great Asby and Kelleth meet the A685.  GR NY 703 053. Walk 2 - Hartley circular walk 10am to 3pmish 9km (5.5 miles) with 300m assent - medium.
A new circular walk on John Strutt Foundation nature reserve land in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with Kirkby Stephen Walkers are Welcome and Trust members, looking at botany and wildlife in the varying habitats.

Walk 3 - Kirkby Stephen history through time 2pm - 1.5 hours
A leisurely walk around Kirkby Stephen Conservation Area exploring the alleys and streets from the Anglo-Saxons to the 20th century.
Meet Upper Eden Visitor Centre, Kirkby Stephen CA17 4QN.  Walk can be adjusted for wheelchair users.  Donations welcome.
