Friday 1st December - Kirkby Stephen Community Arts presents `Nativity! (U)' - Kirkby Stephen Sports and Social Club
An improvised comedy based around a school nativity play. Make the most of your evening after the Christmas lights switch-on.

Do you fancy volunteering with the John Strutt Foundation on a section of the old Stainmore railway?
- completing the removal of ash saplings from the track-bed
- strimming/raking the rockrose embankment to clear it of regenerating ash, bramble & hazel
- raking strimmed vegetation clear of the herb-rich grassland on rockrose embankment
- strimming raspberry, rosebay willowherb within Bighill Cutting
- transplanting more melancholy thistle - courtesy of Simon - from his garden
- raking nettle roots out of the track-bed
- burning ash saplings and nettle roots
Directions - If you would like to volunteer, please head for the village of Winton near Kirkby Stephen. The Bay Horse Inn (CA17 4HS) lies at the heart of the village. From there take the hill road: after a km (1/2 mile), take the R hand road to Rookby Scarth and climb for another km until you come to where the Kirkby Stephen - Stainmore railway once bridged the road at the entrance to Rookby Scarth farm. (OS Explorer map OL19, grid reference NY 798 101). Please do not obstruct the upper side of the entrance track: parking should be on the opposite downslope verge. From there, climb the stone-steps on the South side of the road onto the old railway track-bed and walk up to a km along the footpath until you encounter the volunteers working. Please make yourself known.
Monday 4th December - Cumbria Wildlife Trust - `The Work of the Wild Trout Trust' - The Friends Meeting House, Kirkby Stephen

Gareth Pedley, Conservation Officer with the Wild Trout Trust, will speak about the work of the Trust in helping to preserve wild fish populations and their habitat.
The CWT Upper Eden Support Group runs a variety of activities to support the Trust's work. Everyone is welcome to join us for our talks, which take place at The Friends Meeting House, 48A High St, Kirkby Stephen, CA17 4SH.
There is a recommended donation of £3 for Cumbria Wildlife Trust for each talk, to include refreshments. Children free. Local contact: Mike Langley 017683 72173. We continue to meet alternate Thursdays at the Friends Meeting House (opposite the Spar Shop), where we enjoy fellowship over tea and coffee followed by guided activities and usually end with singing some favourite songs of old.

Following the success of the Upper Eden Memory Club at Kirkby Stephen we have decided to start a second group in Brough to enable us to continue to accept Clients and Carers into our Kirkby Stephen family. We enjoy fellowship over tea and coffee followed by guided activities and usually end with singing some favourite songs of old.
